A post on Dave Duarte (.co.za) points to technologyforafrica.org. They’re gauging interest in a web and technology conference.

From the site:

We’re trying to figure out whether there is demand for a web and technology conference in Southern Africa, and we’d really appreciate your help if you can spare a few minutes.

I’m really behind something like this. I do however hope that there will be discussion beyond the typical “what is blogging and how will it change our planet for the better?”, “why traditional media should be shaking in their boots..”, or “how to run effective emarketing campaigns” by a company who don’t practice what they preach. I think that we need to move past these hype/introductory presentations and move into the nuts and bolts of how we can move the industry forward.

I’d also love to see a session where organisations (or individuals) are able to give a 5 minute presentation on a product that they’re developing, something like the Web 2.0 Summit’s “Launchpad”.
