Quick South African beer alcohol / Kilojoules guide

December 20th, 2007 · Comments

Being the festive season, where one can consume lots of glorious beer, I thought i’d do a quick check on the nutritional info of the major players getting us all a little tipsy this december..

I’ve really only been able to find the Alcohol and Carbohydrates data on the brewer sites:

Brand / % alcohol / kJ/100ml

Castle / 5% 165

Castle light / 4% / 125

Castle Milk Stout / 6% / 210

Miller / 4.70% / 165

Carling Black Label / 5.50% / 165

Hansa / 4.50% / 135

Hansa Marzen Gold / 5.20% / 173

Savannah / 6% / 250

Savannah light / 3% / 168

Peroni / 5% / <3.5%

Redds / 4.50% / -

Summary:
Savannah and Castle Milk Stout will get you drunk and fat the fastest.
My pick would be the Hansa (lower carbs) and then Black Label (more bang per carb).

Consider yourself informed..

    Goodday,
I would like to know why the Savannah Light Beer is not available in the Liquor Stores. I seem to only find the Savannah Dry Beer which is okay.
  • Thanks Scott, this is a time of relaxation and now you've put the spanner in the works :)
