Cricket data and commentator idols: quick thoughts.

November 18th, 2007 · Comments

I’m watching the cricket thinking about commentators and their access to information.
I thought it would be a great tool for them (and therefore the viewers/listeners) if there was some kind of voice recognition system that “listened” to them talking and picked out words as they say them. These words are then searched for on a [...]

Opensocial, the invisible Facebook killer?

November 4th, 2007 · Comments

Much has been said about Google’s OpenSocial APIs, but for me the fact that it isn’t really a website or physical space is what makes it interesting.
Uno De Waal is someone who’s posted quite a bit about social networking platforms (or social networks) being a fad, whilst the activity of social networking is here to [...]

A tip for using facebook for business..

September 4th, 2007 · Comments

1. I get quite a few of requests for meetings to look at products that may be of interest to me.
2. Reports say that about 50% of companies / employees have banned / no access to Facebook, this includes my place of work.
Therefore, trying to get hold of me via Facebook is not the best [...]

Deezer - music on demand

August 24th, 2007 · Comments

Logo with shiny reflection .. check.
Rate, share and embed music .. check.
Create customised playlists .. check.
Free .. check.
Deezer = Web 2 point whatever compliant..
With Pandora shutting out non-US users, and CBS’s acquisition of my favourite favourite last.fm (on May 30th) the personalised-music-on-demand landscape is probably ready for something like this.

When you decline the invite, does the originator get alerted to this? My current strategy is to ignore until the event is [...]

Introducing - BMW Press Room

June 29th, 2007 · Comments

After a few months of trial and error, we’ve gone live with the BMW Press Room. Built on a pretty average out the box blogging platform - technical requirements from server teams and IT departments we’ve managed to hack it apart and rebuild it to include a decent tag cloud, and social sharing links [...]

GOOG - Analytics and Picasa updates..

The Google machine has released 2 really nice updates:
Google Analytics: face lift.

The free web analytics tool offered by Google, has a shiny new interface that makes me want to “do stats” all day long. Gone are all the 3d charts, and slightly confusing navigation options. Now it’s all big, flat, and easy to understand.
I [...]

Question of the day - the Semantic web

April 3rd, 2007 · Comments

Can you explain, to your mother, in a sentence, What is the “Semantic web”? I understand the concept, but to put it in simple words is another challenge all together.
Links to “semantic web” in SA blog universe:

Both Stii.za.net and Chillibean seem to be using it quite often, so maybe they could have a [...]

Google, YouTube, and a billion bucks..

If the big guns at Google haven’t exited post purchase evaluation drive and into cognitive dissonance street, the turn-off may just be up ahead.
