How to avoid static shocks

August 20th, 2007 · Comments

I seem to attract static shocks more than a super-magnet attracts metal filings.
From touching the window or doorknob, to pushing the button on the machine that gives you your parking ticket, i feel like one of Pavlov’s dogs - anything metal is now dangerous and to be approached with extreme caution.
Here’s a bunch of articles [...]

Is it me?

August 8th, 2007 · Comments

Am I the only one who gets some kind of deep down guilt whenever I decline joining some Facebook group invitations? Or even clicking the dreaded “Not Attending” button on a event invite? When you decline the invite, does the originator get alerted to this? My current strategy is to ignore until the event is [...]

Tips for sending your proposal #1

August 1st, 2007 · Comments

I get quite a lot of proposals in my inbox each week. A lot of them, especially the Powerpoint ones, are completely bloated in file size and average about 2MB. When I’m told by IT department to clean out my inbox, these are the first to go.
If you can’t tell me why you’re so special [...]

Are you a Jargonator?

June 27th, 2007 · Comments

Man, I can’t stand jargon!
Just got a proposal that contained the following paragraph in the covering email:
Focused marketing: This direct access yields focused marketing strategies that tie in synergistically with mainstream advertising campaigns and that enable measurable return on investment.
I’m not sure if “synergistically” is even a word, but if you can’t explain your [...]

reCAPTCHA - Fight the SPAM and lend a hand.

May 27th, 2007 · Comments

Now here’s a project I’m happy to back.
Instead of copying some meaningless mambo-jambo piece of text like “B81IS59g” (which is difficult enough to work out as it is), why not help digitize scanned books one word at time?
More from recaptcha.net:
About 60 million CAPTCHAs are solved by humans around the world every day. In each [...]

GOOG - Analytics and Picasa updates..

May 18th, 2007 · Comments

The Google machine has released 2 really nice updates:
Google Analytics: face lift.

The free web analytics tool offered by Google, has a shiny new interface that makes me want to “do stats” all day long. Gone are all the 3d charts, and slightly confusing navigation options. Now it’s all big, flat, and easy to understand.
I [...]

I’m back. And need a holiday :(

April 24th, 2007 · Comments

Great trip to Italy.
Here’s the pics. Taken on my favourite of favourite cameras the Lomo LCA. Digital is great for volume and ease. But film has a soft/warm charm to it. The way my little lomo frames pictures with its characteristic dark faded edges is, as a good friend would put it, “totally sweet“.
Here’s a [...]
