My scattered friday afternoon thought goes like this:
One of the main responsibilities of an agency is to share ideas. Most agency websites are fairly flat affairs that either:
a - show off their trophy list,
b - show off their client list (no matter how small the piece of work was that they did for HugeCorp)
c - talk about how great their vision is (yet haven’t got the portfolio to prove that they can execute it)
d - all of the above.
I think that if you’re going to do anything with your website, a part of it should be devoted to the sharing of bookmarks.
Lately I’ve been spending more and more time looking at what other like minded people find interesting. And this is where agencies should be playing.
Enter del.icio.us bookmarking and tagging.

It’s simple -
- Find something cool / beneficial to any one of your clients, tag the page and write a little blurb (a few words will do), add some tags, and submit.
- Client thinks he’s come up with a brilliant idea.
- Pays agency to make it happen.
Heck, you can even drop some jargon like web 2.0, and social media sharing to further impress said client.
In his legendary book “How to win friends and influence people“, Dale Carnegie says to win people to your way of thinking “Let the other person feel the idea is his/hers.”
I’m now subscribed to a number of agencies and friend’s delicious bookmarks, and it just makes discovering new things that much easier and more pleasant.
My delicious page: http://del.icio.us/thescott, and my RSS feed for these bookmarks is here. You can even get delicious to publish your bookmarks as they happen on your blog.
And if you don’t know what RSS is, you need to know, and you need to watch this video:
i think that’s all.
